At 3:32 am the rooster outside started crowing, “hey, y’all I’m up”. I’m guessing he’s the alpha dude because he crows on the hour and more join him every time. And I’m under the mosquito net like, “Mr. Rooster, I don’t need you. My internal clock is still in Atlanta so I’ve been awake for almost an hour”. The second alarm of the morning- call to prayer that started at almost 5am.
Day 2 was orientation with 28 other volunteers. Men and women from Australia, Bali, Caribbean, UK and the US. Most are here for teaching and childcare programs. We received our placements the majority are in Nairobi but others are in the suburbs, Maasai land and Mombasa.
