I stopped at Etoile in Helsingborg for breakfast before going to the train station. A filling breakfast of GF toast, avocado, fresh carrot/apple juice, a soft boiled egg and tea. Gotta remember this combo when I get home.

Boarded 2.5 hour train north to Gothenburg Centraal Station, passing sheep (!) and farm land along the way. I arrived a little after 3pm (aka 1500 because everything is in military time here).

A city with two names – Göteborg and Gothenburg. Google Maps and my Lonely Planet guide mostly refer to it as the latter.

I strolled through Haga, the oldest part of town. Immediately stopped to look at the cute streets and antiques. It’s a contrast to Malmö which had lots of global and local chains. Think H&M, ZARA, Lindex and (the omnipresent) Espresso House. Haga’ cobblestone street was lined with independent boutiques and cafés.
Somehow I found Hops. The patio was slammed so it looked like a good choice for super late lunch/too-early dinner. I’ve already forgotten the beer but I’ll never forget the chèvre salad. It had four massive pieces of cheese, tomato, cucumber. All the good stuff piled high with balsamic dressing. So so good.

Then…dessert. They were serving beer floats in margarita glasses. No sense. I know. I ordered one: Kurt Cobain Seattle Sessions beer with a scoop of mango ice cream and fresh passion fruit. It was worth a try but I would skip the beer next time.
