Did you ever watch the 1993 version of “The Secret Garden”? Mary Lennox spends most of her time skipping rope until she finds a key. She fumbles through some vines to open a locked garden. And then everything changes.

Olivia arrived yesterday so today was our first full day exploring Stockholm. We walked a lot in the morning, starting with the Vasa Museum. It’s a massive, top-heavy ship that tipped over after sailing a few hundred meters. Definitely worth the visit.

Maybe we should have rented bikes because by lunch time we were tired. But all doubts and fatigue faded when we walked up the gravel path to Rosendals Trädgärd. A (seemingly) hidden garden, farm and restaurant. Full of locals. Natural and beautiful.

A Swedish woman on the Käringön ferry last week recommended it. We walked through a buffet line to choose from a huge assortment of sandwiches and pastries. First choice (bottom left): toast with a thick slather of goat cheese, tapenade and tomatoes. Next, almond cake topped with apricots. Finally, at the counter, I ordered the gazpacho because everything at the restaurant is sourced from the farm and how can fresh gazpacho on a warm day in a garden be bad? It’s not possible. Fact.
We ate outside under the pergolas.
We ended the night with Swedish meatballs from Nomad! Served with buttery mashed potatoes, sweet pickles and lingonberries. I could eat more right now.
